Khaplu
About This Location
Khaplu Valley lies in the eastern part of Baltistan, along the Shyok River, surrounded by towering mountains and traditional stone-built villages. It is known for its historic Khaplu Palace, vast orchards, and peaceful rural landscapes. During spring, the valley turns vibrant as its fruit-bearing trees blossom across the riverbanks, farmlands, and villages. Khaplu’s combination of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and welcoming local communities makes it one of the most charming places to visit during blossom season.
Weather Conditions
During the spring blossom season, Khaplu Valley offers cool mornings, mild afternoons, and cold nights. Daytime temperatures generally stay between 10°C and 18°C, while evenings can drop close to 5°C due to the valley’s high altitude. Snow often remains on nearby mountain slopes, creating a fresh, bright atmosphere as the orchards begin to bloom. The weather stays calm and pleasant, perfect for village walks, photography, and exploring local heritage sites.
Best Time to Visit
The best time to experience cherry, apricot, and apple blossoms in Khaplu Valley is from late March to mid-April. Blossoms in Khaplu usually appear a little later than Hunza because of its cooler climate. The prime bloom period is typically from the last week of March to the second week of April, when orchards around Khaplu Palace, Gharbuchung, and the surrounding villages are full of pink and white colors.
